Join us on the early morning of Saturday October 5th, from 5:30am to 8am as we partner with Bird Safe Philly to learn about the bird collision monitoring done at Independence National Historical Park and the surrounding buildings. (RSVP Here)
Coffee and snacks will be provided by ICB and all levels of birder are welcome to learn; No experience needed. The event will be conducted on concreate pathways in and around the park (urban city setting). There are benches are throughout the park for rest but there are no public restrooms available.
Depending on attendance, a minimum of 2 people per group will walk and conduct surveys (hopefully we have larger groups). This is an introductory session to bird collision monitoring as conducted by Bird Safe Philly staff and volunteers. The exact meeting location at Independence National Historical Park will be communicated to attendees prior to the day.
Will conduct monitoring across 5 locations in/around the park between 5th St., 6th St., Chestnut St., and Race St. We will also provide gloves, bags, hand sanitizer, and maps.
This event will likely include the observation and collection of deceased and/or injured birds that will be transported to the appropriate facility. It should be understood that the observation of birds in this state can be jarring for some. Please take inventory of your mental/emotional care if attending (hugs/tears/moments of reflection are welcome)
This work is incredibly valuable in advocating for the birds that find refuge in our beautiful city. You can learn more about the importance of this monitoring work here.
